Tooth Colored Fillings
Thanks to new technology, cavities are being filled with tooth-colored material rather than silver fillings. Cavities are common occurrences, especially for young children. At Seasons Dental, we recommend coming in for regular, six-month checkups and teeth cleanings. It’s always best to catch cavities when they are too small to cause much damage.
What Are Fillings?
Fillings are applied to teeth to close spaces where infection might enter the tooth. They also help prevent further decay in teeth. Dental fillings are one of the most routine and common practices at a dental office. Our highly experienced dentists will clean away the infected areas of the tooth and then fill in the newly cleaned area with filling material.
Types of Fillings
When you have a cavity, a filling is typically the best way to fix it. In the past, dentists used silver fillings on teeth. Known as “silver amalgam,” the silver filling was made up of 50% mercury and 50% other metals, including the silver it got its name for. There were enough drawbacks associated with silver fillings that they are a thing of the past. Today, tooth-colored or “composite resin” fillings are easily available to you!
Silver fillings have to be replaced after a certain amount of time passes. When yours must come out, consider putting in tooth-colored fillings instead. We use new technology that makes them as durable as silver, strong enough for use in your heavy-duty chewing molars.
Tooth-colored fillings give your smile a natural look, as they are colored to match the rest of your teeth. Don’t be self-confidence about your silver fillings anymore. Less filling is needed with composite resin, meaning you keep much more of your own tooth when the filling is complete. It also requires less invasive procedures to put the fillings in.
